This gorgeous set of eight lead crystal wine glasses, hand made and hand painted in exquisite detail, was created in Murano, Italy by the Barbini Studio. The clear glass is 24% lead with a beautiful ring and lovely clarity. The upper and lower rims are trimmed in hand-applied 24 karat gold paint. The clear stems are joined to the bowls with a faceted orb containing an inverted teardrop of sapphire blue glass. There is an etched, frosted band encircling each bowl, decorated with a pair of flowers, the enamel thickly applied so the flower petals are three dimensional.
Each flower has a single bead of gold in the center for the stamen. There are also swags and cross-hatchings of gold, similarly 3D; all are a delight to run your fingers over as you savor your fine wine. You will find this stemware to be perfectly balanced and exceptionally comfortable in your hand.
Received as a gift in 1992 by the original owners, the set is unused and in like new condition. One of the glasses has retained its paper label (pictured) while there was a loose one in the bottom of one of the glasses also, which we'll include. The glasses are 8 inches tall, have a 3 inch diameter mouth and a base 2 3/8 inches across. They hold 8 ounces to the top edge of the frosted bands on the bowls, so they can comfortably accommodate the standard 5 ounce pour, making them an excellent choice for both reds and whites.
The Barbini family has been creating superb glassware for centuries in Murano and these fabulous glasses continue the tradition. Truly the perfect gift for your favorite oenophile, as well as an elegant addition to your home bar.
